What is Blog Action Day 2008 – Poverty? It’s a worthy endeavor to encourage bloggers to ”DO Something About Poverty Right Now”, and then blog about it. The Action Blog at the official Blog Action Day site suggests “88 Ways to Take Action Against Poverty Right Now”.

When I last checked, there were over 12,000 sites blogging about Blog Action Day 2008. This is awesome! What an excellent reminder of what is important on this planet we all live in. This is a worthy cause I support.

My personal feelings

My childhood illustrates how caring individuals can really make a difference in a child’s life, even in the small things they do. My father was a good man. He got sick and died when I was 9 years old, leaving several children for my mom to raise. So I grew up in a poor family, although I didn’t know it at the time. We had what we needed. I really appreciate all the things our neighbors and church friends did to bless our lives while I was growing up.

It is important for me now to help less fortunate children, to be their friend, to teach, encourage and inspire them. My wife, Tanda, and I are always looking for ways to share with others. She is such a wonderful example of a loving, compassionate, Christian woman. We are currently working to make our businesses successful so that we can generate enough surplus to contribute on a larger scale to help alleviate poverty. We also look forward to the time when we can serve a full-time mission. We are hoping to go to a country where we can really make a difference.

Tanda and I want to encourage you to find ways to share what your have with those who are in such desperate need.

I wrote a short post about Blog Action Day on our GrandparentsTLC.com blog. Several of my friends have also written excellent articles about it, which I recommend to you. Please show your support by commenting and submitting their webpages to your favorite social bookmark sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, and Mixx.

Please let me know if you have an article about Blog Action Day so I can add it to my list.

Thanks, Shayne

Here’s a fun site you oughta try. Next to being a grandma, it’s one of my wife’s favorite pastimes.

One way to help out that is fun and educational is to play free rice. It is a vocabulary game and for every definition that you get right Free rice donates so many grains of rice to a third world country.
Also some interesting facts from the World hunger facts site. The world produces enough food for every man, women and child to have 4200 calories a day. It would take approximately 300 billion dollars. This is about the amount the USA and the European Union spends on perfume each year. World Hunger Facts site has many suggestions you might all find interesting.

I want to personally thank all of you who took the extra time to comment here. It means a lot to me.

I’m glad I was able to contribute to Blog Action Day in some small way. How did my participation come about? I saw lots of folks on the net and twitter talking about Blog Action Day — all doing their bit. So I checked into it to see what it was all about. What a great cause! I decided to write a post myself.

After I published it, I went to work, proactively promoting other writers’ efforts. I commented on their articles, adding my thoughts about poverty, and giving “way to go’s”. This was getting exciting! I submitted their posts to social bookmark sites like digg, mixx, stumbleupon, propeller, and wrote little reviews there as well. I gave thumbs up and kudos along the way. I followed up with shouts and links to the submitted bookmarks. I tweeted links on twitter.

I was also hoping that others would reciprocate by linking to and commenting on my post here, so we could get the “circle of love” synergy thing going, thus amplifying everyone’s effort. And the Blog Action Day-Poverty initiative would be the beneficiary.

So thanks again for your effort to this cause.
